INCREASING LEARNING AND TEACHING COLLABORATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SUPPORT

The Curtin Academy Mentoring Circle facilitates mentoring between Curtin Academy Fellows and Curtin academics. Outcomes have included peer reviewed publications, increased research funding and profiling of contemporary learning and teaching practices. This illumination will showcase two recent recipients of funding from the Curtin Academy Mentoring Circle including the “Assessment Design and Student-Led Publishing” project exploring how the systems and structures of a student-led publishing house can be optimised to create opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration and community and industry engagement, and the “Grades or Work Experience?” team who explored the question of how students perceive the relative importance of academic achievement compared to practice-based experience in the law and science disciplines.

SUPPORTING STUDENT WELLBEING IN HIGHER EDUCATION

An Illumination event that provides an opportunity for the Curtin community to find out more about how they can support student well-being on campus. Including insight into the Curtin Autism Research Group's (CARG) recent Mass Open Online Course (MOOC) for autistic students which provides opportunities for autistic students to learn how to celebrate their individuality, strengths, skills in the context of their mental health. The co-produced MOOC, designed alongside autistic academics, aims to support autistic students to better understand their individual strengths and skills, while also recognising when they may need extra support to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

THE CHANGING NATIONAL TERTIARY aGENDA: a NATIONAL CONVERSATION

Professors Kift, Johnson, and Associate Professor Lodge will cover topics such as equity, participation, access, and opportunity in Higher Education, the progression of scholarly work and research, and its practical application. The discussion will also examine assessing quality and career prospects, along with practical strategies for achieving transformation through disruptive changes.

This Illumination Panel is a joint event with the Curtin Student Guild and brings together students from Curtin Bentley, Curtin Malaysia and Curtin Singapore to explore the diversity of the student cohort, the challenges that students feel they face and how they see their future partnering with their university lectures to co-construct learning experiences to ensure they are ready for employment in 21st century.
